A warm welcome goes out to two new honorary SAA members.

Oliver Evan Los was born on Friday, May 11th at 7:05am. He weighs 8lbs 6 ounces. Congratulations to Michele Los and family!

Sengpat and Stanley are also excited to announce the arrival of their baby daughter: NIKITA AMELIA LAU

She came screaming into the world on Sunday, May 6^th at 6:41am. Nikita weighed 6 pounds, 7 ounces and stretched 53cm long. She is putting on weight fast and is already showing amazing strength and stamina. She has long, strong legs and a huge lung capacity. Definite IronMan potential. We are looking forward to unveiling our new baby sometime in the near future.

Spartan Race 2012

In a completely different type of event this past weekend, SAA members Tammi, Jennifer, Fay, Brian, and Marinus joined in the fun at the 2012 Spartan Race in North Vancouver. This 5km challenging trail run and obstacle course included having to negotiate various obstacles including crawling under barbed wire through mud pits, scaling over an 8ft wall, carrying buckets of rocks up a steep hill, a javelin throw, and other interesting challenges. Once it was done there was mud, blood, and lots of smiles!

BMO Vancouver Marathon & Half Marathon

The SAA was very well represented at the 2012 Vancouver Marathon which was run on totally new courses and with great weather.

Racing the full were Amanda, Barton, Brian, Benji, Colin R, Dan, Doug H, Ellen, George, Joanne R, Les, Quanny, Tim L, Tracy M, and Marinus. Racing the half were Al, Carrie, Colin M, Dianne, Jim B, Julian, Leslie, Linda H, Mark, and Magaret.

Congratulations to everyone who raced, and thanks to all the SAA supporters that were our cheering our people on!

Richmond Adult Athletes of the Year! Congratulations Ann and Stephen

I am so happy to share the news that Ann Hayes and Stephen Ptucha have won the Richmond Sports Awards Female Adult Athlete of the Year and Male Adult Athlete of the Year Awards. They were nominated because of their outstanding achievements in the sport of triathlon and for their contributions to the community. The Richmond Sports Awards banquet was this evening and both Ann and Stephen were honored with the following:

Ann Hayes, Female Adult Athlete of the Year
Finish at IronMan World Championship in Kona; 14:55:08
1st place finish Womens 60-64 Category, IronMan Canada, Penticton BC in a time of 14:04:04

Stephen Ptucha, Male Adult Athlete of the Year
Qualified for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Las Vegas, NV with a time of 4:55:50; 2nd in his age group at the Kajaks Ice Breaker 8k Road Running Race in Richmond, BC with a time of 29:18; Ran a 1:21:53 in the Vancouver First Half Marathon

Congratulations, Ann & Stephen, we are all so VERY proud of you!

Uniform Re-Orders due by May 11th

Talk among the members suggests there is a desire for a uniform re-order right away. So, we’re going to take orders for the next two weeks, until May 11 and, assuming we reach the minimum numbers, we’ll place an order right away which should get us uniforms around the end of June.

Please complete the order form and return it to stephen@thesaa.ca by May 11th. Monies will be collected when the uniforms arrive. Any questions please don’t hesitate to send me a note.

Tonights Bike Session is Cancelled

We have cancelled tonight’s bike ride due to the wet dark conditions on the roads (hills + wet roads are NOT a good mix).

It’s been raining cats & dogs all day out here at UBC!

Oliver Wine Capital Triathlon

13th Annual Delta Triathlon – Race Report

The Steveston SAA and South Delta Tri Club were out in full force today at the 13th Annual Delta Triathlon. Today’s race had a great community feel in large part because of the large presence from the Steveston and South Delta groups! Thank-you to everyone who volunteered and congratulations to all the racers.

Congratulations to: Andrew C, Brian F, Carly G, Carrie N, Catherine H, Cody F, Dan M, David SA, Debbie B, Diane K, Erin L, Evan B, Gary M, Heather F, Jan F, Jean Michel A, Joanne F, Joel W, John B, Kevin S, Les P, Lesley C, Lisa H, Marc Jason L, Mark P, Mary B, Michael B, Reesa P, Rob B, Robbie J, Ryan M, Shannon F, Stephanie H, Susan L, Suzy L, Tammi MR, and Taryn P.

We had close to 40 people racing with many many personal bests. Special mention goes to our racers who placed in the top three in their age categories including: Marc-Jason L, Mark P, Joel W, Joanne F, Jean Michel A, Dianne K, Brian F, Cody F, and Jan F.
