I completed the ride last weekend with the mileage of 327km, it was a very scenic route and the weather co-operated for the most part, there were 1701 riders which raised 6.9 million dollars. These are huge numbers which will fuel the battle for research and care, but the war continues. I thank you again for your support, I could not have done this without you. I will be embarking on a different challenge next year. The Ride to survive is a one day 400km ride from Kelowna to Delta with 11000 feet of climbing over two mountains, this is a self supported ride and it is self supported, so every dollar raised will go to the cause. I hope i can count on your support again next year, I will send information out in early 2010. Again, hats off to all and have a great summer.

In my usual fashion, I forgot a few rather important items in my weekend race report, so let me add them now.

Our very own Ann Hayes earned a podium spot with a 3rd place finish in her age group at Ironman Coeur D’Alene, well done!

At the Victoria Half Ironman we had 3 members who completed their first Half Ironman race. This is a huge accomplishment and some special recognition goes out to Fay Waterberg and Joanne Rooney and Leslie Burgess! Also to make note was a big PB by Erin Lee as she knocked a whole whack of time off her previous best. > view more photos < > and more photos <

Now keeping with the endurance theme here, we had one member who spent just a bit of time on his bike over the weekend. Ben Hsu completed the Ride to Conquer Cancer from Vancouver to Seattle. This was a 327 km ride over two days with a little “hammer fest” at the end as Ben showed he can hang with the Cat3 racers. Overall there were 1700 riders and the event raised 6.9 million dollars for Cancer research. In Ben’s words “there were some very sad stories and some heroic ones, but the whole weekend was about human spirit. The event was very well organized and the route was beautiful, I recommend it to anyone likes cycling.” Congrats to Ben for all his hard work during and leading up to the ride and another “thanks” to all the SAA members who supported Ben during the fundraisers.

Don’t forget to drop me a line if you are racing so I can include you in the race reports. If you hit a pb or you know of someone who did – send me a note as hard work deserves some kudos.

This spring, Benji traveled to Morocco to complete the Marathon Des Sables event. He’s emailed us some photos to share. Enjoy!

After an extra day to let the dust settle, I see that we had a nice big pack of SAA racers up in Oliver competing in the Half Ironman race this past Sunday. The weather seemed to cooperate this year and with some small course changes and a lot of hard work by the competitors, the times were faster. Well done to all SAA racers for completing a long and tough race. In alphabetical order the racers out this weekend were:
