Congratulations SAA President Joanne

On behalf of the entire SAA club, I would like to acknowledge our fearless president and her life outside triathlon. In addition to being our club president and accomplished triathlete, Joanne is also a highly respected member of the UBC Faculty.

Joanne received two awards this spring.

The first is UBC’s Killam Teaching Prize. These are awarded annually to faculty nominated for excellence in teaching. The nominations come from students, colleagues, and alumni, and nominees are thoroughly evaluated by faculty colleagues. Three awards per faculty are given out each year.

Secondly, The Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education has selected SCIE113, a program that Joanne co-developed, as the recipient of the 2013 Alan Blizzard Award — programs from across Canada submitted applications, and Joanne’s program was selected from this national pool as the best example of a program which uses collaboration to enhance the effectiveness of university teaching and learning. The award will be presented at the annual STLHE conference in June in Cape Breton (Joanne plus a couple of her colleagues and former students), and a monograph describing their program will be published and circulated to Canadian universities.

Congratulations Joanne. We are all very proud of you.
