Closer to home at the Ladner Leisure center the 11th annual Delta Triathlon was held with huge representation from the SAA in both race participants and race volunteers. This event hosts a Kids of Steel (KOS) race first thing in the morning followed by the Adult race. Before we get to the racers, I would like to congratulate Race Director, Tracey Shelley, for her amazing work pulling together both the KOS and Adult race. Thanks also needs to be sent to all SAA volunteers, Jim Fox, Linda Hilts, Tom Mueller, Joanne Fox (aka Swim Bunny), Rob Herron, JJ Hill, Mike LaPorte and probably others that I forgot to mention. Many members volunteered for the KOS race and raced themselves while others took time out of their valuable spare time to help out with the triathlon. While the weather was not perfect, the kid’s and adult’s smiles really showed how much these volunteers are appreciated.
This race saw many SAAers achieve significant accomplishments including completing their first triathlon and others stepping on that finish podium.  Now on to the SAA racers; Michelle Horstmann (1st in her age group), Joel Lemaire (3rd in age group), Susan Gelinas (2nd in age group), Andrew Do, Brian Flett (2nd in age group), George Tiller, Jane De Lemos (3rd in age group), Marinus Waterberg, Theresa Nicholson (2nd in age group), Trudy Harris (1st in age group), Erin Lee, Al Pearse, Mark Hoath, Barton Pietras, Fay Waterberg, Joe Lavoie (1st Triathlon),  Jan Frail, Amanda Hill (1st Triathlon), Dan McLaren (1st Triathlon), Joanne Rooney, Michelle LaPorte and Tracy Baisley. Great showing folks and well done to those who undertook the additional swim and cycling training to get across the finish line of their first multisport event.
