Weekend Race Report: 07-Sept-09
Summerland Sprint Triathlon – Sept 6, 09
The winds were creating some choppy water for the Summerland Sprint Triathlon held at Peach Orchard Beach park in Summerland. Michelle Horstmann had a great showing finishing 2nd overall in her age group and for females.
Vancouver Triathlon – Sept 7, 09
Coming off a gruelling weekend at Ironman Canada, Joel Waithman peddaled his relay team to top spot at this labor day’s Olympic distance event in Stanley Park.
In the Sprint distance SAA had two racers out there strutting their stuff. Joel Lemaire, Barton Pietras and Jon Winebrenner all had great races.
Bonney Lake Triathlon – Sept 5, 09
Moving down south we had two SAA racers in the Labor of Love  Triathlon at Bonney lake, WA. Both Barb Hinds and Leslie Burgess braved the rain while they sped around the Olympic distance course. Leslie finished in 3rd in her age group and Barb finished 2nd in the Athena category.
Disney Half Marathon Weekend – Sept 5 & 6
Getting out of the rain into the California sunshine, we had a small contingent of SAA’ers down at the Magical Kingdom racing against Mickey, Donald and the gang. Michelle, Mike and Lauren LaPorte and Jim Fox ran the 5k Family Fun Run on the Saturday. The following day Michelle, Mike and Jim ran the 1/2 Marathon on Sunday. Since they ran the Disneyworld race last January, they qualified to receive extra hardward in the form of an additional medal… I can hear it clanging from here.
Grand Teton Ultramarathon – Sept 5
Up and over a few borders to the lovely state of Wyoming, Benji Chu was one of two Canadians running a 50 mile trail ultra through the beautiful Teton Mountains. Looks like Benji had a very respectible race over this rather long distance, nicely done Benji!
