Race Report – World Police & Fire Games
The World Police and Fire Games are underway in and around Vancouver.Â Â “These games are open to all full-time professional firefighters, law enforcement, customs and correctional officers from around the world. Held every two years, these games bring together the emergency services community for 10 days of sport, celebrating camaraderie, community and competiions”Â Over 10,000 athletes are entered inÂ over 60 events. http://www.2009wpfg.ca/index.php
SAA is veryÂ proud to have one of our own, Brian Flett, competing in these games. Â I’ll update the report as Brian finishes his events:
Cycling Time TrialÂ – Wednesday August 5
Race location: Lower Seymour Conservation Area, North Vancouver
Results: Out in the not so flat course of Mount Seymour Parkway, Brian had a great race, finishing 5th in his age group.
Cycling Road Race – Friday August 7th
Race location: Campbell Heights Road Race Course,Â 192nd St & 22nd Ave, South Surrey
Results:Â 65 riders attacked this 4 loop, 40km course with the lead riders playing yo-yo with the main peleton. Brian had another great race, edging out the other riders in the chase pack to finish in 9th.
Triathlon -Â Saturday August 8th
Race location: Whonnock Lake,Â 27871 113th Ave Maple RidgeÂ
Results: With some great times posted for this triathlon, the entrants looked more like Whitfield clones then then the age groupers we’re used to seeing. Brian closed out his Police and Fire Games events with a BRONZE medal podium finish at the Olympic distnaceÂ triathlon.
