Race Report: 19-July-09
Across the Lake Swim – Kelowna
“Every year the Across the Lake Swim attracts a new group of swimmers who want to challenge themselves with something they have never done before: to swim completly across Okanagan Lake, in Kelowna, right over the Ogopogo spawning grounds! For many, it is one of those things to do before I die challneges that gives s atremendous sense of accomplishment.” This past Saturday Andy Palaniak completed this swim and avoided the Ogopogo. Congratulations Andy.
IG Peach Classic Triathlon – Penticton
Just a short ways to the south also on the shores of OK Lake, Barton Pietras and Laurel Richardson raced the Olympic distance Investors Group Peach Classic Triathlon. From fans in the crowd, we heard the winds picked up part way through the swim to make it more challenging. Well done Barton and Laurel (2nd in her age group).
ChelanMan Multisport Weekend – Chelan, WA
Even further south across the border into the US, we had a couple of SAA racers showing their stuff at the ChelanMan Multisport Weekend in Chelan Washington. This multisport weekend offers many events in both triathlons and running, inlcuding a try-a-tri, sprint, olympic, long course, 10k, and half marathon. The race results page was not available when last checked but the club satellites showed Barb Hinds and Michelle LaPorte completing the Olympic distance triathlon on Saturday and Mike LaPorte completing the Try-a-Tri triathlon on Sunday. Nicely done to all three.
