Weekend Race Report

It seems like the name of this past weekend was endurance. Over on the Island we had a few SAA racers competing in the very scenic New Balance Victoria International Triathlon – Half Ironman distance. Erin Lee, Joanne Rooney, Fay Waterberg and Marinus Waterberg all had great races and Brian Flett picked up a 2nd spot in his age group. Great job to all for doing so well and completing this endurance event.

Now there were a couple of SAA racers who thought their afternoons looked free and decided to do a Full Ironman distance down at Ironman Coeur D’Alene in Idaho. Finishing this 3.8k swim, 180k bike and 42.2k run and doing so with smiles on their faces and in great time was Rob Herron and Anne Hayes. Congratulations both of you for all the training and commitment that goes into that race.

As my usual omissions, last week I forgot to mention a few other SAA racers. Natasha Purba and Karen Telford ran Golden Ears Bridge run across … you guessed it … the new Golden Ears Bridge. Karen Waterberg ran the Longest Day 10k out at UBC. At the Ambleside Master Mile on June 6, our speedy Emma Adams was the top female and then she followed up that performance less then a week later at the Kajaks Review International Track Meet on June 10 with a top female spot in the “Mixed Mile” event. That’s some fast running folks.
