Weekend Race Report
This past weekend SAA sent four athletes to the U.S of A for a couple of marathons. To the far south we had Jim Fox rocking it up at the 12 running of the San Diego Rock ‘n Roll Marathon. Looks like Jim had a great run and had he not stopped to perform a complete Elvis impersonation set we think he could have challenged the eventual winner, Khalid Boumilili.
Closer to home but still a few states away, JJ Hill, Susan Gelinas and myself joined up with former SAA member and now Eugene resident, John McKay in the 11th running of the Newport Oregon Marathon on what coincidentatly turned out to be the 34th anniversary of Steve Prefontaine’s passing. The morning started off cool with a bit of fog surrounding the race and then warmed up slightly for the remainder of this very scenic course. Although there was an aid station offering fresh oysters, none of the SAA members had the stomach to try them. The race was very enjoyable and with the cheering from chief athletic supporter, Amanada Hill, the day resulted in Boston qualifications for Big John and myself.
Looks like we have some nice warm sunny weather ahead, so enjoy.
